The Lab’s LED panels currently consist of a standardised configuration. The LED panels are set up as the east wall of 11.5mx2m, a north wall of 8mx2m, a west wall of 4.5mx2m, and the LED pillar .5x.5x2m.

The LED screens in The Lab are driven by a powerful Windows-based media server connected to a Novastar H5. The Media Server contains a Nvidia RTX 5000 Quadro GPU, an Intel i9-11900 CPU, and 64GB of DDR4 Ram along with ample storage for media and assets.

Our system has a variety of inputs for interfacing with the screens:

• 2 x HDMI1.3
• 2 x HDMI 1.4
• 2 x DP 1.2 (connected to our Media Server)
• 2 x HDMI 2.0 (cannot be used simultaneously as DP

Also included is an AverMedia GC570D capture card with one HDMI 1.4 and one HDMI 2.0.

Alternatively we can accommodate your own media server if required.

Elevated control booth for Sound, Lighting and Vision operation.

The Lab has a custom built DJ booth with an attached 1.5x.5m screen. The booth is able to be patched into any RJ45 port, allowing for performance anywhere within the Lab, whatever the stage plot. 

The Lab can accommodate all performances from a conventional band to wildly experimental.

To assist performances, The Lab offers the following vision software:

• Resolume Arena (for video, audio and still images)
• Touchdesigner (for interactive, live generated, 3D, and other complex media)

Resolume utilises the DXV 3 video codec for non-CPU intensive video playback. Resolume allows for conversion of video formats (i.e. .mp4,/.mov/H.264) to DXV 3 with the included Alley software. Alternatively, Apple ProRes 422 for similar performance with smaller file size. Touchdesigne works best with HAP video codecs. The Lab’s technicians can assist in any media conversion.

For control over vision content, The Lab utilises MIDI interfacing through a Launchpad Mini and a Launch Control XL.

Wireless interface options are available through an iPad Pro 2020 using TouchOSC.

The Lab’s audio system has been designed to be a highly modular immersive installation. Consisting of 6 x L-Acoustics 12XT coaxial speakers and 2 x L-Acoustics SB118 subwoofers, The Lab is covered evenly with sufficient low end to accommodate a diverse range of performances as well as 6.1 surround for immersive audio. Depending on where the stage/performance area is, the audio image can be shifted to suit the room layout and configuration.

Our in-house rig includes 16 LED Par fixtures and 8 Moving Spot Prolights, driven by a Chamsys QuickQ20 Lighting Console. House lighting is provided by custom RGBW LED strips which can be pixel mapped for advanced effects.
