A multi-functional, and multi-genre immersive performance space that supports art and culture while leading it in entirely new directions.
The Lab has 50 square metres (that’s 14 million pixels) of LED screens and is curated to ensure a full range of artists will present their creations, from digital sculptors, bands and DJs to theatre, dance and classical recitals.
Each show is carefully curated by our Programming team with diversity, creativity and exciting new ideas prioritised above standing reputations. The program is host to a number of residencies and regular series such as our well loved Jazz offering The Burner and its classical counterpart Interlude. In addition to scheduled performances, The Lab also facilitates experimentation, allowing artists time and access to play with new ideas and develop new work using our digital canvas.
There’s no show quite like a Lab show, and just like every performance here, we’ll let the visuals do the talking.
The Lab is part of Light, an independent creative project in Light Square, Adelaide. Light is a revolutionary social enterprise and registered charity with a vision to provide a home for accessible excellence and innovation in creative expression, the arts, entertainment, hospitality and related technologies. It is a working canvas, the range of experiences it will enable for artists and audiences are as broad as imagination itself. Its purpose is to equip performers and artists with access to ever-evolving immersive technologies, facilitate unique collaborations and underwrite the risk inherent in trying something truly new.
"Light is a canvas for creativity and togetherness. We want to advance human connection by harnessing future technology to create infinite possibilities. Together, we can channel the magic of human chemistry for the digital world and transform artistic expression into breathtaking experiences." – Nick Dunstone, Co-Founder
In embracing contemporary technological possibilities alongside the intimate surroundings of the French salon experience, Seraphim Trio and The Lab have struck on exciting new possibilities in the presentation of traditional chamber music, with future explorations keenly awaited!
It's incredible to play at such an innovative and inspiring venue that has an 'artist first' approach.
Performing at The Lab is an immersive and satisfying experience...the talents of the sound, lighting and digital engineers enhances the musical experience for artist and audience alike.
Such an incredibly unique and inspiring space to perform! The personalised atmosphere that was able to be created allowed for an immersive experience that brought the band and audience together like no where else I’ve performed before.
The venue is the most exciting venue I’ve seen!
